Courier Terms

DRAFT — pending review by the business owner and a UK solicitor. Not yet legal advice.

Last updated: 19 September 2026 · Version 2026-09-19

These terms are for people who deliver parcels on Vendaru. They are general information, not legal advice.

1. Who these terms are for

These Courier Terms apply to anyone who registers as a courier on Vendaru. They sit alongside our Terms of Service, Privacy Policy, Location Tracking Policy and Prohibited Items list. If they conflict, these Courier Terms apply to your work as a courier. When you sign up as a courier you tick a box to agree to them (version 2026-09-19) and, separately, to location sharing.

2. You are independent

Couriers are independent and self-employed. You are not an employee or worker of Vendaru. You choose which jobs to accept, when, and how you do them. Nothing in these terms creates employment, partnership or agency between you and Vendaru. You are responsible for your own tax, National Insurance and expenses.

[SOLICITOR TO CONFIRM: whether independent, self-employed status is right and will hold up. This needs specialist employment advice]

3. Who can be a courier

  • You must be 18 or over. [OWNER TO CONFIRM: whether the minimum age should be 21]
  • You must have the right to work in the UK. [SOLICITOR TO CONFIRM: right-to-work check obligations for platforms; the owner understands these may apply to gig platforms from 1 October 2026]
  • If you use a vehicle, you must hold the right licence and appropriate insurance. For a car that usually means cover for "hire and reward". You should also have goods-in-transit cover for parcels you carry. [OWNER TO CONFIRM: insurance requirements and whether Vendaru provides any cover]
  • Tell us straight away if any of this stops being true.

4. Accepting and doing jobs

  • Open jobs show only the area, rounded locations and a coarse route. After you accept, you see the full addresses. Only accept a job you can do.
  • Collect and deliver the parcel with reasonable care and within the time the customer chose.
  • Take a photo at pickup and a photo at delivery. Photos must be genuine and show the real parcel and the real handover. A photo that doesn't is a serious breach.
  • Follow the Prohibited Items rules. You may refuse any parcel you reasonably suspect breaks them. You don't open parcels.
  • Don't contact the recipient except as needed to deliver the parcel.
  • Be honest and polite in the chat. Use it to arrange the delivery.
  • Never take a risk to complete a job. If someone is in danger, call 999.

5. Handing a job back

You can decline or hand back a job before you have collected the parcel. It then returns to the marketplace for another courier, and the customer isn't charged extra. Do this as early as you can. Repeatedly handing back jobs or not turning up may lead to suspension. Once you have collected the parcel, you can't hand it back in the app. Use "Report a problem" or Help if something goes wrong.

6. Location sharing

You agree that from the moment you press Start order on an accepted job (accepting a job shares nothing), and while the app is open on your device, the app shares your position roughly every 10 seconds until the job is delivered, cancelled or handed back. Without that agreement, the server refuses location updates and you can't work jobs that need tracking. You can turn location off in your device settings, and the customer will then see no live dot, but Vendaru may then be unable to support you on that job. Keep the app open during a job. The details, including who sees your position and how long we keep it, are in the Location Tracking Policy.

7. Customers' information

You will see customers' names, addresses, photos and chat messages. Use them only to do the job. Don't copy, keep, share or publish them, and don't contact people for any other reason. Take care with photos: try not to include faces or anything that isn't needed to show the parcel and its delivery.

8. Payment for your work

Payments to couriers are currently handled manually. [OWNER TO CONFIRM: payout model (what share of the job price the courier receives), any fees, and when and how couriers are paid]

9. Suspension and removal

We may suspend or remove a courier account if we reasonably believe it is needed for safety, to prevent fraud (for example fake photos), because of repeated no-shows, complaints or a breach of these terms. The reason is shown in the app and you can ask us to review it through Help. You can delete your account in the app once you have no job in progress.

10. Responsibility for parcels

You are responsible for the parcel while it is with you, and for any loss or damage caused by your failure to take reasonable care. [SOLICITOR TO CONFIRM: the wording of the courier's liability to customers and to Vendaru]

Emergency? If someone is in danger, call 999. Vendaru can't respond to emergencies.
